Benaojan and Montejaque are traditional white walled villages in the very heart of the Serrania de Ronda and offer a wealth of natural beauty for the visitor and resident alike. The nearby Cueva de la Pileta discovered in 1905 and declared a National Monument in 1924 is one of the very few caves in Europe where visitors are able to see the incredible pre-historic cave paintings, some as old as 35,000 years. Close to Benaojan lies the world renowned Sierra de Grazalema National Park, a region rich in mediterranean flora and fauna some of it unique to the Sierra, in fact in 1977, the park was the first in Andalucia to be declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. |
